Facts on the H-1 B Visa
  • Nearly 500,000 people are currently in the United States on an H-1B Visa
  • Nearly 50 percent of all H-1B workers now arrive from India (47.5 % from May 1998-June 1999), China is second with 9.3%, the United Kingdom is third with 3.2%, and Canada is fourth with 3.0%
  • The median income for all H-1B workers is $45,000
  • H-1B holders pay over $2.3 billion in federal income taxes
  • The Indian H-1B holders who were admitted in the last year alone pay over $300 million in federal income taxes
  • Expert estimates show that all Indians on H-1B visas pay over $815 million in federal taxes annually
