Barnali Dasverma will intern for Representative Brad Sherman (D-CA). She is a California native, as her parents live in Mission Viejo, CA. Dasverma just completed her freshman year at Stanford University, where she is an Economics and International Relations major. In her free time, she is an active volunteer in the community, tutoring economically disadvantaged students. She is also a contributing writer to Stanford's student newspaper.

Diya Gullapalli is quite familiar with the Washington, DC area, having gone to school in suburban Reston, VA. She just completed her freshman year at the University of Virginia, where she is an English and Economics major, with a minor in South Asian studies. An avid writer, she previously served as an intern with Teen People magazine, has covered events for The Reston Times, and was a news reporter for a Charlottesville radio station.  Gullapalli will intern for her district Congressman, Representative Tom Davis (R-VA).

Bharath Parthasarathy completed his sophomore year at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he is a Political Science and History major. His internship will be with Representative Gary Ackerman (D-NY), who is the Democratic Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans. Parthasarathy is an active member in the Chapel Hill community, where he volunteers at a community shelter. He is also a veteran of political campaigns, having worked on six different races, many of which have been in his native city of Atlanta, GA.

Vidhya Prabhakaran of Poway, CA will intern for Congressman Bob Filner (D-CA). Prabhakaran completed his freshman year at Yale University, where he is a Political Science major with a minor in Psychology. He was elected to the Yale College Council and is Coordinator of the Juvenile Justice League, a group that mentors and tutors incarcerated youth. He also has designed part of the web site for Yale's psychology department.

Shanti Raju completed her junior year at the University of Illinois-Chicago, where she majors in Political Science with a minor in Asian Studies. She served as Vice President of the undergraduate Student Government and previously served as an intern at Amnesty International, where she worked on issues regarding women in prison. Raju is from Baldwin, NY and will intern for her hometown Congressman, Representative Peter King (R-NY).

Arun Ramachandra, originally of Fremont, CA, has completed his freshman year at Brown University. He is majoring in Development Studies and Creative Writing and will intern this summer for Representative Ed Royce (R-CA).  Ramachandra is a member of the South Asian Students Association and has worked to enhance global poverty awareness on campus. He is also a California State Champion in Debate and a level Seven pianist.

Vikrant Reddy, a native of Fort Worth, TX, completed his second year at the University of Texas-Austin. He is a member of UT's Plan II Honors program, where he majors in Economics and minors in math. At UT he ran the Student Issues Committee and was involved with the creation of Student Hunger Awareness week. He recently served as an intern in the policy department for George W. Bush's Presidential campaign. This summer Reddy will intern for Representative Tom Petri (R-WI).

Uma Seshamani, who is originally from Warren, NJ, will intern for Representative Frank Pallone (D-NJ). Seshamani finished her second year at Princeton University, where she is a Public Policy and International Affairs major with a minor in Finance. Seshamani is the Class of 2002 treasurer, as well as President of the Woodrow Wilson Residential College Council. She is also active in her community; for example, she serves as a soccer coach for children in Trenton, NJ.

Jaideep "Jay" Singh has completed his freshman year at Brown University.  Although he calls Sugarland, TX, home, he has lived all around the world.  He attended high school abroad at the American School of Kuwait. Singh is an International Relations and Economics major. He is a member of the Brown Model United Nations Club and an assistant at the Brown Journal of World Affairs. He will intern for Representative Robert Weygand (D-RI).

Sunit Singh is a native of Aurora, IL and will intern this summer for Representative Sherrod Brown (D-OH). Singh attends the University of Chicago, where he is a South Asian Studies major. He just completed a year studying international relations at the London School of Economics. He previously served as an intern at the National Association of Social Workers and has volunteered to work with numerous other organizations.

Maunica Sthanki, of Baton Rouge, LA, completed her junior year at Louisiana State University. She is an English and International Relations major.  Sthanki is a founder of LSU's Model United Nations program, as well as Jayalaxmi, a Hindu Youth organization. She also volunteers with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. This summer she will intern for Representative Anthony Weiner (D-NY).

Michael Thakur is a native of North Wales, PA. He completed his junior year at Harvard University, where he is an Economics major. He is the Chair of the Harvard Model Congress and serves as an editor for the Harvard Crimson newspaper. Thakur previously worked as an intern for Representative Michael Capuano (D-MA) in Massachusetts and worked as a volunteer for Al Gore's Presidential campaign. He will intern for Representative Alcee Hastings (D-FL).

Sonja Thomas will intern for Representative James Oberstar (D-MN).  She completed her junior year at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where she is an English major with a German and Cultural Studies minor. At UM-TC, she is an active member of the Indian American students group and secretary of the Asian American Student Cultural Center. She is also involved in other volunteer activities. Thomas is a native of Glendive, Montana.

This summer Nadeem Akbar will intern for Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR).  Akbar completed his sophomore year and is from Russellville, Arkansas. He
attends the University of Arkansas where he is triple majoring in Middle East studies, Physics, and Math, while minoring in Arabic. He is active in school, working as a research assistant in the biology department, as well as tutoring students in a number of fields. Akbar is also an active volunteer in his community, and in his free time he enjoys playing the
tabla.

Marian Antony will intern at the IACPA in the Washington office. Antony has finished her sophomore year at the University of Maryland-College Park.
Originally from Towson, MD, Antony is a Government and Politics major with a minor in psychology. She is active on campus with the Indian Students Association, the Sri Lankan Students Association, and the Asian American Students Union. She has also worked on a Habitat for Humanity project in Mississippi.

Atishay Chopra just completed his first year at the University of Michigan, where he is seeking a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, while minoring in Philosophy. Chopra is originally from Ellicott City, MD. He is treasurer of the Indian American Students Association on campus and active with many other organizations. This summer he will intern with Representative Connie Morella (R-MD).
