3 winners among 11 candidates; Senate, Congress and local races

Anjali Lathi ran for board of directors of Union Sanitary District, Ward 3 in Fremont, CA, and won
Anjali Lathi, 38, an attorney and Fremont resident, the incumbent who ran for a seat on the board of directors of the Union Sanitary District, Ward 3, won in a landslide majority, getting 64.8 percent of the vote, defeating among others Jeevan Zutshi. Lathi was unanimously selected to this post back in 2000. A resident of Fremont for nine years, she has degrees in economics and law from the University of California, Davis, and is a former Santa Clara County prosecutor. She was born in Illinois, and moved to California with her family in 1980. She speaks numerous languages, including Hindi, Spanish and Portugese.
Zutshi’s Web site says he has also been working with the Kashmir Overseas Association.
Sanjiv Kapoor, ran for City Council in Fresno, CA, secured 13.5 percent of the vote
n Indar Singh, 76, a full-time farmer, was re-elected to the board of the El Paso County Water Improvement District No. 1 (Division 1), Texas. He has represented the district’s Upper Valley division for 24 years. Today, the District is responsible for delivering water to over 32,727 accounts, the majority of the water used in the District. The El Paso Times reported that big farmers and landowners contributed $26,535 in January to re-elect three incumbents, including Singh, about seven times more than the challengers received.

n Sanjiv Kapoor, candidate for the Green Party County Council for Fresno County, was among eight candidates for seven posts. He secured 13.5 percent of the vote, tying with another candidate for third place. Kapoor is a geographer and has been a student of California State University, Fresno.
