Formal launch of U.S.–India Caucus gets national attention

John Cornyn (R-TX),  Hillary Clinton (D-NY)
April 29: –– The formal launch of the U.S.–India Caucus led by Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) in the Senate generated national attention. The reputed National Journal called the Caucus “a goodbye gift to the departing Indian Ambassador Lalit Mansingh.” The 32-member Caucus has many of the leading senators, including Majority Leader Bill Frist and Appropriations Chair Stevens and plans to promote better trade and strategic ties with India. When asked about the outsourcing blip in the otherwise rosy scenario, Sen. Cornyn said the two parties would find a solution beneficial to both Democrats and Republicans. “We have nothing to fear from one another…. As India’s standard of living continues to increase, Indians will be able to buy more American goods and services, and that will be good for both of us.”
