Even as Bobby Jindal, Republican candidate for Congress from Louisiana’s 1st District, and his wife Supriya face a crisis with their newborn son Shaan Robert, the former assistant secretary for health is leading in the polls.

A poll taken at the end of May by Florida pollster Verne Kennedy, shows Jindal with a commanding lead of 68 percent, confirming earlier polls that had similar results in this overwhelmingly conservative district, according to a release from the campaign office.

Thanking his supporters for their prayers for his son who was admitted to the hospital due to an accelerated heart rate and loss of appetite, Jindal said their son was out of the intensive care and making progress.

Meanwhile, the Verne Kennedy poll showed his opponents Steve Scalise receiving just 6 percent and Tom Schedler just 5 percent.

“I am thrilled that we have been able to increase our support and grassroots organization over the past five months,” said Jindal.

“This poll demonstrates that our message of creating jobs, lowering taxes, and making health care more affordable is being well received among voters on both the North and South shores,” said Jindal.
