R. Pawar named to U.N. task force on financial mechanisms

Rajendra Pawar, CEO of Indian information technology major NIIT, is among the 15 who have been named to a new International Task Force on Financial Mechanisms that was launched on Oct. 4 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, according to a U.N. press release.
The task force will assess existing financial mechanisms in meeting the challenges related to promoting investment in and the use of information technologies to enhance development in developing countries. Apart from Pawar, others of possible South Asian origin include Ayesha Hassan, senior policy manager at the International Chamber of Commerce; Mohsen Khalil, director, Global Information and Communication Technologies at the World Bank; Sarbuland Khan, director at the Office of ECOSOC Support and Coordination, at the U. N. Department of Economic Social Affairs and Mohamed Yunus, managing director of the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh.
