CACF award for journalist and author S. Mitra Kalita

S. Mitra Kalita
The Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF) was scheduled to honor journalist and author S. Mitra Kalita, on Oct. 20 in recognition of “her dedication to and success in depicting real-life stories of Asian Americans, especially South Asian Americans, in her journalism and writing,” according to a press release.

Kalita, a reporter for The Washington Post who writes primarily about education, also serves as President of the South Asian Journalists Association (SAJA). She wrote the book ‘Suburban Sahibs: Three Immigrant Families and their Passage from India to America,’ published by Rutgers University Press and Penguin-India. “Mitra sets an example as a writer who consciously makes an effort to shed light on Asian American communities. CACF is proud to honor Ms. Kalita because of how she inspires and educates the public,” said CACF board president Hema Kailasam.
