Deshmukh to be Maharasthtra CM

MUMBAI: Vilasrao Deshmukh will be the new chief minister of Maharashtra, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad announced on Oct. 29.

Deshmukh was chief minister till Jan 2003 when Sushil Kumar Shinde replaced him amid internal strife in the state unit. Deshmukh will head a Congress-Nationalist Congress Party coalition that was returned to power in the state elections held Oct. 13.
