Rep. Holt requests GAO to examine voting irregularities

Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) on Nov. 9 requested the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to examine widespread reports of voting irregularities.

“On Nov. 8, I joined my colleagues John Conyers, Jerold Nadler, Robert Wexler, Robert Scott, and Melvin Watt in requesting that the Government Accountability Office examine the scope and validity of complaints from voters about malfunctioning electronic voting machi-nes, failures to count absentee ballots, and efforts to preclude monitoring of vote tabulations around the country,” according to a statement from Rep. Holt’s office. “I have joined my colleagues in making this request because of my commitment to elections that are accurate, accessible, and auditable. In the coming weeks, I will be working with my colleagues in the Congress to begin a dialogue about the need for implementing electoral reform measures that will help ensure that every vote is counted.”
