Dr. Aggarwal is Georgetown U’s B-school interim dean

Dr. Reena Aggarwal has been appointed interim dean of the Washington-based Georgetown University’s Robert Emmett McDonough School of Business. Since 1986, she has been a faculty member at the B-school. Dr. Aggarwal, who took charge recently, will be the interim dean for 2004-05 while the school continued its search for a permanent dean.
A scholar of international distinction, Dr. Aggarwal’s area of expertise is initial public offerings (IPOs), international stock markets, and market microstructure. She has authored several articles on IPOs and the functioning of stock exchanges in various countries. Her papers have often been published in leading financial journals, including The Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times. She is also a regular on local and international radio and television channels.
Between 1997 and 1999, Dr. Aggarwal worked as an academic fellow at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In 2003, she served at the International Monetary Fund as a visiting research scholar. On a Fulbright Scholarship to Brazil and Chile, Dr. Aggarwal closely studied the stock markets and privatization programs in these countries. She also worked on major consulting projects, including those sponsored by the World Bank, the Nasdaq Stock Market, the U.N. and the U.S. Agency for International Development. She also provides her expertise to institutes such as the Capital Markets Research Center and the Center for Business and Public Policy. She received a master’s degree in Management Studies from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani, Rajasthan. After that she joined the University of Maryland for a Ph.D. in Finance.
