Accused in Shankaracharya case produced in Tamil Nadu court

CHENNAI: Ravi Subramaniam, a prime accused in the case of murder of a temple official in which Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi has been sent to jail, was produced by Tamil Nadu police in a court in Kanchipuram on Dec. 27.
Subramaniam, whose whereabouts had been unknown for the past three months, was produced before a magistrate dealing with all the accused in the case related to the murder of temple official A. Sankararaman in September.
Saraswathi has been accused of plotting the murder of Sankararaman who had charged the former with wrongdoing and has been in jail since Nov 11. Appu, another prime accused arrested last month, was placed in remand till Jan 3. Earlier, the junior Shankaracharya, Vijayendra Saraswathi, was on Dec. 26 questioned by the police in connection with the murder of Sankararaman. Police officials also took away his brother, Raghu, from his Chennai home for questioning.
