‘I call on fellow New Jerseyans to assist unfortunate victims’


NY/NJ Lawmakers Respond

Congressman Upendra Chivukula

Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula (D-NJ).
Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula (D-NJ) has set up Tsunami Victim Relief effort to raise donations. Assemblyman Chivukula was quoted in a press release as saying, “Human suffering of this magnitude calls for extraordinary efforts to aid those who have suffered. As an Asian American legislator, I call on my fellow New Jerseyans to reach deep to assist those unfortunate victims.”

U.S. Senator Jon S. Corzine added his concern, the release further added. “This is a tragedy of immense proportion which will require unprecedented international cooperation. The community aches for the tragic loss of so many people. At this time of grief and shock, the United States must join with other nations to provide relief, comfort and hope,” said Corzine.

Congressman Frank Pallone (D-NJ) was quoted as saying that “a tragic disaster of such a large magnitude deserves our attention and assistance. As human beings we have all been horrified by the loss of so many and we must do everything that is in our power to ensure that the victims of this tragedy receive the help that they so desperately need.” Monetary donations are preferred by aid organizations. Checks may be made payable to:

a) American Red Cross.
b) B.A.P.S.
c) St. Francis Cabrini Church for Indonesian Relief Fund.
d) World Malayalee Council.

The donations are being collected at the Assemblyman’s office at 888, Easton Avenue, Somerset, NJ, 08873.
