AARP donates $100,000

Ladan Manteghi, director, international affairs, AARP.
AARP, a nonprofit member organization that represents the interests of persons 50 years and over, has given $50,000 to CARE for tsunami disaster victims. It also gave another $50,000 to HelpAge International specifically for this purpose.

According to Ladan Manteghi, director of international affairs, AARP, CARE supports families and individuals of all generations and HelpAge represents older people.

“Often times it is forgotten that older people are the ones most vulnerable in disasters. We felt it was important for us to support one organization that worked with older people and the other that worked across generations,” she added.

The organization is considering other funding opportunities. Meanwhile, it has made all the resources available on its own Website so that its 35 million members and 1,800 staff have a provision to make individual contributions.
