Prayers organized at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church

By Gloria Suhasini

A meeting for prayer and reflection around the tsunami tragedy was organized at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Oakland, New Jersey, on Dec. 30.

About 20 lay and clergy leaders participated in the vigil, which is one of the several to follow, according to the organizers. At the vigil, participants discussed the enormity of the Tsunami disaster and also about how to move on with relief and rehabilitation efforts.

“Episcopalian Relief and Development has already sent about $500,000 from its corpus,” Prince Singh of St. Alban’s told News India- Times. He said that National Asian Indian Christian Association which took part in the vigil is directing its attention and donations to Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, and also Sri Lanka through agencies.

Singh said that the church has planned a larger vigil on Jan. 15, and expects it to be a interfaith event, with participation by people from Indonesia, India and Sri Lanka living in the U.S. The vigil will be conducted in Russell Park, N.J.
