Eleven American universities have come together to offer courses in 11 South Asian languages. South Asian Summer Language Institute (SASLI), hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, offers Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Malayalam, Nepali, Sanskrit, Telugu, Tibetan, Tamil and Urdu.

According to a SALSI release, the eight-week language courses are being offered from June 13-Aug. 5. It said all languages, except Malayalam and Sanskrit, are offered at the elementary level. Advanced levels are offered for Nepali and Tibetan. The universities that sponsor SALSI are Columbia, Cornell, Triangle South Asia Consortium, Syracuse, the University of California, Berkeley, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Texas, Austin, Virginia, Charlottesville, Washington, Seattle and Wisconsin, Madison. “The SASLI program fee for the full 8-week program is $2,700. This excludes the cost of textbooks and other materials, UW assessment fee, as well as living costs,” the release said.
