B.S. Prakash takes charge as India’s consul general in San Francisco

B.S. Prakash, who headed the United Nations division at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, has taken over as the new consul general in San Francisco.

Prakash succeeds H.H.S. Vis- wanathan who was appointed India’s high commissioner to Nigeria.

A career diplomat belonging to the 1975 batch of the Indian Foreign Service, Prakash has served in Indian embassies in Austria, Saudi Arabia and Germany.

He also served as the deputy chief of mission in Sri Lanka and high commissioner in Uganda. An M.Phil. in philosophy and international relations, he was a senior fellow at the University of Maryland and a fellow at the National Defense College in India. He is proficient in Hindi, Kannada, German and English.
