Bridge of India-Pakistan Friendship
U.S. hails as ‘historic’ the bus across divided Kashmir

The U.S. on April 7 described the inaugural bus service between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad as a “historic moment” for India and Pakistan, especially for people across divided Kashmir.

“Today represents a historic moment... most importantly for the people of Kashmir on both sides of the Line of Control (LOC), who can now begin to enjoy the benefits of a restoration of links that have been broken for 58 years,” U.S. Ambassador David C. Mulford said in a statement.

He lauded the courage shown by civilian passengers and the statesmanship of leaders of India and Pakistan in making the bus service successful.

“They (Indian and Pakistani leaders) will continue to have the strong support of the U.S. as they resolve their differences peacefully through dialogue,” he said.
