Dr. Kang is selected for SDCIA Lectureship
SOUTH DAKOTA — Dr. Manjit S. Kang, professor of quantitative genetics in the Agronomy and Environmental Management Department, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA, was selected for the 2005 South Dakota Crop Improvement Association (SDCIA) Lectureship, sponsored by the SDCIA and the Plant Science Department of the South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD.
According to a press release, Dr. Kang delivered a general lecture on ‘Can crop scientists help feed 10 billion in 2050?’ on March 21 and a technical seminar on ‘How GGE Biplot analysis can help plant scientists’ on March 22. Originally from Punjab, Dr. Kang came to the U.S. in 1969 to obtain his graduate degree in genetics plantbreeding, biological sciences from Southern Illinois University in Edwardville, IL, and a master’s in botany from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Dr. Kang told News India-Times.
Dr. Kang has received many professional honors and awards, including the Fellow of American Society of Agronomy, Fellow of Crop Science Society of America and Fulbright Senior Scholar award of the U.S. Department of State, the release said.
