Submitting a re-port on the role of biotechnology in increasing productivity to Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar here on June 2, Swaminathan said: “We have made provisions to protect biodiversity, bio-security and suggested a series of measures (for genetically engineered or GM crops) that will inspire public confidence."
Underscoring the continuance of India’s Kashmir policy, the Manmohan Singh government has retained N.N. Vohra as its interlocutor. Vohra, 70, had submitted his resignation as the Centre’s pointman on Kashmir to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on May 25 following the United Progressive Alliance’s rise to power in New Delhi.
The previous National Democratic Alliance government had appointed the center’s pointman on Kashmir in February 2003.
