Democratic District leader Sengupta seeks re-election

The re-election kickoff and reception to Democratic District Leader, Uma Sengupta, New York State 25th Assembly District, Part B, was to have been hosted by Friends of Uma Sengupta and members of the community on June 5 at the World’s Fair Marina Restaurant in Flushing, New York.

Sengupta was the first South Asian to be elected to a party office in the Queens Democratic Organization. She is seeking re-election for a second two-year term.

Congressman Gregory Meeks was listed as the keynote speaker at the re-election kick-off. Senator Cuck Schumer (D-NY) and Queens County Democratic Chairman Thomas Manton were to be honored at the event. Among those expected to attend were members of the U.S. House of Representatives, New York State Senare and Assembly, and New York City Council.

Sengupta, who came to the U.S. in 1970, is founder of Rainbow Montessori School. She describes herself first as a mother and grandmother and says she wants to work ensure a good life, quality education and housing for all children. She also wishes to focus on long-term care of elderly immigrants, who, she says, had devoted the best years of their lives to their adopted country.
