Gujarat, New Jersey sign MOU on energy

NEW YORK : New Jersey Governor James E. McGreevey witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the United States Energy Association (USEA), the Gu-jarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC), and the N.J. Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) in Princeton, N.J., on April 12.

A press release issued by the governor’s office said the MOU was signed by B.M. Oza, member of the GERC, Jeanne M. Fox, president of the NJBPU, and John Hammond, program manager of USEA. The partnership will be funded by the United States Agency for International Development and implemented by the USEA.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, McGreevey emphasized the importance of the partnership and New Jersey’s strong relationship with the people of India and Gujarat. He also noted that the MOU came at a time when both New Jersey and Gujarat wereng their energy markets up to new investment and competition.

The partnership will involve all aspects of regulatory operations and administration in the energy sector including organization of tariffs, management, restructuring, finance and accounting, marketing, customer service, power dispatching, power system operation and control. The partners would be cooperating directly with each other through exchanges, forums, workshops and seminars.
