New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg told a radio show on May 16 that undocumented immigrants contribute more to society than they get in terms of services an they ought to be made citizens.
As per the transcript of the talk show --- ‘Live From City Hall with Mayor Mike and John Gambling’ on WABC/770 AM ----- the mayor told callers: “Every economic study that has been done actually says that undocumented, or what you call illegal immigrants, undocumented people contribute more to society than they get in terms of services.” He added: “I have always thought that what this country should do is get control of its borders, and at the same time make everybody who is here undocumented... just make them citizens, let’s get one with it, they’ll become taxpayers, they’ll become productive members of society easier.”
Bloomberg was responding to a question from Kiam, who identified himself as a health care professional in Brooklyn, N.Y., and said illegal immigrants were collecting food stamps, Medicaid, welfare, health benefits, school benefits and hospital care and wondered why he should be paying for people who were in the country illegally.
