SASA Incident Report
Due to the large
number of complaints about discrimination at the 1999 South Asian
Student Alliance conference, the India Abroad Center for Political
Awareness, in conjunction with the SASA '99 organizers and the US
Department of Justice, is collecting reports of discriminatory conduct
by Sheraton Hotel employees which would indicate that South Asian
attendees were treated differently than non-South Asian attendees..
This
information is being collected so that the hotel management
and corporate leadership can be informed of the unequal and
possibly illegal treatment of South Asian hotel guests. Your
report and contact information are completely confidential.
We are collecting information only to learn the extent of
discriminatory practices at the conference.
Who
should file
Registered
participants of the SASA conference who experienced or witnessed
racially discriminatory behavior from hotel staff and others (i.e.
security, law enforcement, etc.)
We are also
attempting to account for Sheraton hotel guests and
discriminatory behavior by the Sheraton staff.
